On Thursday, the U.S. Attorney in Tulsa Trent Shores presented a final report on protecting Native American children in the Indian Health Service to the White House.

Shores is the co-chair for a task force President Donald Trump announced last year. The group is looking into issues within the system that failed to prevent a pediatrician from sexually assaulting young patients.

The task force briefed First Lady Melania Trump who said she's committed to making sure Native children are safe when receiving care.

"Native American children, like all children, deserve to grow up in a safe, supportive, nurturing environment. Strong Native American communities are strong American communities," Melania said.

In a tweet, U.S. Attorney Shores announced the First Lady has accepted an invitation to visit the Cherokee Nation as part of her 'Be Best' campaign.
