Route 66 Commission Hopes Shoppers Will Hit The Road For 'Shop 66 Saturdays'

The Tulsa Route 66 Commission is launching a new event series "Shop 66 Saturdays" to drive up traffic along the route. Commissioners say Tulsans and tourists are encouraged to shop, eat and "get their kicks" on the first Saturday of every month starting June 5.

The Meadow Gold District will feature pop-up shops, artists, and a vast variety of vendors throughout the area. Lisa Wakefield is the chair of the Economic Development Sub Committee and she says the route-wide event features discounts, specials, neat photo-ops, and a diverse group of shops to choose from.

"No one is the same. They're all independently owned. They're all unique. We have salons and art galleries and retail shops and car lots and restaurants, so don't forget to eat lunch while you're out here on Saturday," said Wakefield.

The first 100 shoppers will receive a free "Shop 66 Saturday" canvas tote bag with some goodies. Bags will be given away at the Commission pop-up under the Meadow Gold neon sign near 11th and Peoria from 10 to 3.
