Doctors with Saint Francis Health System say there are still too many people ending up in the hospital with COVID-19 despite improvements in recent numbers. The hospital will also offer booster shots once they are approved.
The hospital reports more than 220 patients across the Saint Francis Health System are currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Doctors said people who do not have the shot and are under the age of 65 are 32 times more likely to end up in the hospital.
Nearly 90% of positive patients are using some kind of supplemental oxygen at the Yale campus.
The hospital is expected to offer booster shots once they are approved by the Food and Drug Administration. A group of experts endorsed the third shot last Friday for people who are 65 and older and others over the age of 16 who have a high risk of getting severely sick.
