Several agencies are in day two of a manhunt, looking for the man accused of shooting an Okmulgee Police officer. The suspect is armed and dangerous, according to investigators.
A man said that right across from where he lives, Christopher Harris hid in a crawl space after the shooting.
Officers last saw Harris running into a wooded area, but asked everyone in Okmulgee to be on the lookout.
Steve Caywood said the past two days in his neighborhood have been nothing short of insane.
“It’s scary. We’re fixing to move out of town Monday so that will get us away from here," said Caywood.
Investigators said Christopher Harris was firing shots in an Okmulgee neighborhood Wednesday night.
An affidavit said people at a home near 2nd and Central called police and said Harris, who is their son, was trying to get inside.
Officers could hear Harris firing shots in the backyard.
They said when Officer Dustin Clark went back there, Harris ambushed Clark and shot him with an assault rifle. Officer Clark fired back but Harris ran away.
Caywood said Harris hid in a crawl space under a neighbor's porch just a few houses down from the shooting.
"She seen his head pop up. She wasn’t sure it was him," Caywood recalled.
Caywood said Harris hid there for several hours before running down the alley.
He said officers broke down the door to get inside, since the neighbors were out of town. Caywood boarded up the door afterward.
"I had to do this to stop people from trying to break in to steal everything they own," Caywood said.
Officer Clark is home recovering. He’s a seven-year veteran of the police department and is a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Harris served 10 years in prison for bank robbery and was released in 2021. If you see him, call 911.
