Clothing Drive Established By Businesses In Tulsa's Meadow Gold District

Although it's warm right now, businesses in Tulsa's Meadow Gold District started a clothing drive to help people stay warm.

Businesses like Empire Slice here boxes for anyone to drop off cold weather gear for John 3:16 Mission.

Those involved hope to play a role in helping our homeless community stay warm.

Staff and volunteers at John 3:16 Mission load up on food and other necessities every day to pass out to the homeless.

"Anything we can do to make someone safe, and to help them feel normal for a few minutes provides opportunities for us to encourage them that there's always a better way and that there's always hope," said Rev. Steven M. Whitaker, John 3:16 Mission CEO:

Reverend Steven M. Whitaker with John 3:16 says the mission counts on the community, from volunteers to donations.

That's why the nonprofit is grateful that the Meadow Gold District Business and Property Owners Association came up with a campaign called Meadow Gold Gives Back.

Kelly Fiddner, who owns a Farmers Insurance Agency, says the idea came at a monthly meeting.

"Especially as a business owner, I think it's so important that you are giving back to your local community and what's going on here, especially with Tulsa's homeless," Fiddner said.

Donation boxes are at 10 businesses, including Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on 66.

Those involved hope to make donating easy to help the most vulnerable.

"I'm thankful that they're all going to be gathering cold weather items for John 3:16. They know that we will store them well, and make sure they get to the people that need them. Every day, we're out on the streets, trying to help our neighbors." Rev. Whitaker said.

Organizers also hope more businesses will participate in the future.
