The Cherokee Nation said that they are canceling the Sequoyah High School graduation due to COVID-19.
The graduation ceremony was scheduled for July 31, after initial delays due to COVID-19.
In a statement, officials said "We know our Sequoyah graduates are disappointed, but we have to listen to the advice of our health services experts, administration and education services, as well as CDC guidance, and believe it is not safe for a mass gathering as positive COVID cases continue to rise."
Sequoyah graduates can pick up their diploma from the high school office during normal business hours, and those who are unable to can have them mailed, officials said.
