Daughter Of Victim Killed By Wade Lay Seeks Justice 17 Years Later

The daughter of a man murdered nearly 18 years ago is devastated the killer has been given a stay of execution.

Kenneth Anderson was a bank security guard and was murdered during a bank robbery in 2004. Wade Lay was supposed to be put to death in January, but that's on hold to see if he's mentally competent.

Monique Anderson says her dad Kenny Anderson was a hero in every way.

"I just wish we had more time," said Monique Anderson.

Kenny served in the military, and then he fought another battle with cancer. Monique said her dad wasn't supposed to ever have kids, but she was a miracle baby, and he was very protective of her.

"After all those odds, he beat them, and I was born."

Wade Lay and his son Christopher were convicted of killing Kenny while he was working as a security guard at a Tulsa bank. Prosecutors say Lay was trying to rob the bank to get money and get revenge on the government after events in Waco Texas and Ruby Ridge.

Lay was sentenced to death and supposed to be executed on January 6, but a judge put that on hold to see if Lay is mentally competent to be executed. Lay's attorney said Lay has a history of severe mental illness.

"Wade fought so hard to get off death row, why would we give him what he wants?" Anderson said.

Monique said she doesn't wish death on anyone but says she's been waiting nearly 18 years for this chapter to close so waiting even longer is hard.

"My dad was here one minute and gone the next," said Anderson. "I didn't have time to prepare or think about it."

Monique said she'll continue being a voice for her dad who said kind and funny.

"I just want justice to be served and his legacy to live on," she said.

The state agreed to postpone the execution until a competency hearing can happen.

Lay's son Christopher was sentenced to life in prison.
