The new Wellness Center is open at the Owasso Family YMCA after months of construction.
The Wellness Center is the first time part of the facility has been updated, and now, the fitness room is complete with state-of-the-art equipment and three new exercise studios. Six months in the making, and the Owasso Family YMCA is ready for visitors with $2 million worth of improvements.
When vistors walk in, they will notice a new child development center where kids can play while their parents work out. There's also a space for before and after-school programs. The fitness facility used to be a basketball gym, and now, it's an 18,000-square-foot fitness facility.
New exercise studios offer a variety of group fitness classes, spin classes, and yoga and Pilates.
"We know that the Owasso community is forever changing, you're starting to see a younger community. And so, we wanted to be able to meet the needs of this changing community by redesigning this facility,” said Kyle Wilkes, Vice President of Mission Advancement for YMCA of Greater Tulsa.
He says the upgrades were needed with the growing population, including in nearby towns.
"We want to make an impact on people's lives. We know that families come in here together, individuals, seniors, and teens, to be able to focus on their goals, but also to be able to build community. And so we want to be able to offer a space for everybody from our 6-week-old youngsters all the way through our seniors,” Wilkes said.
Until Saturday, anyone can join without a fee.
